全新材料，全新感受

孔蓋杯墊3.0，歷經了整整三年的時間，從材料特性的研究、製程的開發，在過去的漫漫日子裡，這一刻，終於問世。這次的人孔蓋杯墊3.0，存在著過去杯墊的影子，卻又多了屬於自己的特色，首次使用高達50%含量的日月潭底泥作為材料，重現人孔蓋的經典外型，帶著大自然的氣息，回歸你我的生活之中。日月潭底泥處理不易是因為來自於日月潭底部，參有水域雜質的生料，性質黏稠且難以單獨使用，因此借由煤灰杯墊製作的經驗，以泥料輕燒將材料均質化，再混入陶土中燒製，運用的比例為50％。並且沿用煤灰概念，在這次計畫仍選擇是以人孔蓋作為杯墊的造型，感受從煤灰陶土、煤灰水泥、底泥陶土，同樣的造型但不同材質的呈現。這次依舊沒有任何的染色，保有底泥本身的顏色，感受出淤泥而不染、最純粹的美。本次計畫與雙好2byWu&Chen聯名，將日月潭底泥作為主要材料，結合臺灣精湛陶瓷燒製技術並保有材料原色，復刻再現人氣商品人孔蓋杯墊。

New Materials, New Sensations

Manhole Coaster 3.0 is the result of three years of dedicated effort—from material research to production development. While retaining the familiar silhouette of its predecessors, this version introduces its own character. For the first time, it incorporates up to 50% of sediment collected from the bottom of Sun Moon Lake. The classic manhole cover design returns with a breath of nature, finding its place again in everyday life.

Processing the lakebed sediment is challenging due to its viscous nature and raw state, filled with aquatic impurities. Drawing from past experience with coal-ash coasters, the team pre-fired the sediment to create a uniform base before mixing it with clay at a 50% ratio.Continuing the coal ash concept, this project also embraces the manhole shape—reinterpreted across coal-ash ceramic, cement, and now lakebed-clay materials. Same form, different essence.

No artificial colorants were added—the piece retains the raw tone of the sediment itself, expressing beauty in its most unadorned form. This collaboration with 2byWu&Chen features Sun Moon Lake sediment fused with Taiwanese ceramic firing mastery, faithfully reviving the beloved manhole coaster.

日月潭底泥人孔蓋杯墊

由於底泥材料特性與一般陶土不同，無法直接套用過去經驗值，因此在開發過程中總共進行超過上百次的實驗，才能找出適合底泥材料的製作方法。新版日月潭底泥人孔蓋杯墊呈現出不同以往的色澤，高溫窯燒過的底泥土帶有粉橘色調，與常見的紅棕色陶土迥然不同，也有別於較早版本的人孔蓋杯墊。底泥燒製後的呈色，讓設計團隊有了新的靈感，為台電文創設計出嶄新風格。

Sun Moon Lake Sediment Manhole Coaster

The unique characteristics of the sediment differ from standard clay, making previous techniques unusable. More than a hundred trials were required to refine a new method suitable for the sediment. The resulting coaster boasts a distinct light-orange hue from high-temperature firing—unlike the common reddish-brown tone of traditional clay, and clearly set apart from earlier coaster versions. The coloration of the fired sediment inspired the design team to create a fresh style for TPCreative.

【Manhole Pattern & Lightning Icon Glasses】

To complete the user experience, the “Under the Cover – TPC Power On” coaster and cup set is now available. The coaster made with Sun Moon Lake sediment is paired with the locally made W LOOP 286 cup by Spring Pool Glass. The cup design features the manhole’s signature cross pattern and Taipower’s lightning bolt icon—extending the spirit of “Taipower Lifestyle” into everyday use. When filled with a drink, the glass reveals a subtle gradient that brings a refreshing feeling for summer.

極簡「潮電藍」包裝設計　向台電一線工程人員致敬

雙好設計2byWu&Chen 以台電工程制服的灰藍與人孔蓋杯墊經高溫窯燒後的粉橘作為包裝主色，為人孔蓋杯墊換上新裝。除了吸睛的粉嫩色系，全新設計的帶電小icon在各處出現，勾勒出你我日常中，細微卻不可缺少的帶電元素。

「設計前期，我們走訪日月潭電廠與許多台電材料倉庫，發覺每一種材料，都在台電員工精準俐落的分類中，以顏色、外觀、使用方式作為分項，這也成為極簡潮電藍包裝設計的關鍵靈感。」

為了呼應台電文創循環永續品牌精神，雙好設計研製專屬一體式包裝結構，將一片紙材以精巧手法折疊後，便能為內容物帶來緩衝效果，降低外包裝紙材不必要的裁切浪費。

Minimalist “TPC Blue” Packaging – A Tribute to Frontline Workers

2byWu&Chen chose the steel-blue of Taipower uniforms and the light-orange hue of the fired sediment coaster as the main tones for this packaging redesign. The soft, eye-catching palette is accented with newly illustrated “powered” icons, subtly scattered across the box to reflect the quiet yet essential presence of electricity in our daily lives.

“During early design exploration, we visited the Sun Moon Lake power plant and several Taipower storage sites. We were amazed by how meticulously the materials were classified—by color, appearance, and usage. This systemized elegance became the key inspiration for our minimalist‘TPC Blue’design.”

In line with TPCreative’s commitment to sustainability, 2byWu&Chen developed a custom one-piece packaging structure. With a single sheet folded smartly, the package protects its contents while reducing material waste from cutting excess paper.

循環永續之路，停靠新的一站

台電文創近年與在地品牌合作，投入以廢棄材料的再製計畫，企劃開發多款循環設計系列產品。陸續與META DESIGN合作「退役木橫擔計畫」，將電桿廢棄木料化為閱讀燈具；與擅長金屬設計的生活品牌 NAKNAK聯手展開「退役變電箱再製計畫」。截至目前已運用煤灰、木橫擔、變電箱、礙子等多項退役電力材料，如今推出底泥製品，再度為循環永續開拓出新的可能！

A New Stop on the Road to Sustainability

In recent years, TPCreative has worked with local brands to develop upcycled products from retired infrastructure materials. Projects include the “Retired Wood Crossarm Program” with META DESIGN, turning old utility pole arms into reading lamps, and the “Substation Box Repurposing Plan” with metal design studio NAKNAK. So far, they’ve transformed coal ash, wood crossarms, substations, and insulators—and now, with sediment-based products, they’ve opened yet another chapter on the road to circular sustainability.
